The Microsoft Security Certified Compliance and Identity Fundamentals certification is meant for students, business users and IT pros who want to have a complete view of how cybersecurity is done. The nature of this certification is that it presents some primary information on Microsoft Security, Identity (MSCI) solutions and Compliance upon which other certifications in security operations as well as identity access management are built.
By earning this certification, you will:
- Demonstrate your knowledge of Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity solutions.
- Showcase your understanding of how Microsoft SCI solutions deliver holistic, end-to-end cybersecurity capabilities.
It is recommended that, as a candidate, you have familiarity with:
- Networking and cloud computing concepts.
- General IT knowledge or any general experience working in an IT environment.
- General understanding of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
Skills Measured:
- Describe the concepts of security, compliance, and identity (10–15%)
- Describe the capabilities of Microsoft Entra (25–30%)
- Describe the capabilities of Microsoft security solutions (35–40%)
- Describe the capabilities of Microsoft compliance solutions (20–25%)
Passing Criteria:
- A passing score is 700 or greater.

Recertification:
- Previously, Microsoft role-based and specialty certifications were valid for two years.
- Starting June 2021, certifications are valid for one year, but they can be renewed online for free at Microsoft Learn.
- The renewal window begins six months before the certification expires. During this window before the cert expires, you can take a free online assessment and get the certification extended by one additional year from the current expiration date.
- Want the best of both worlds old and new? Certifications earned before June 2021 will be valid for two years and eligible for the new renewal process.
