Easing faxing pains using Right Fax product and the right training.
Published On: 17 March 2006
Customer: Sacred Heart Healthcare System
Location: New York, NY, US
Industry: Health Care
Sacred Heart Hospital is a 243-bed Catholic medical center located in central Allentown. Founded in 1912, Sacred Heart Hospital offers a full range of advanced medical services, ranging from open heart surgery and neuroscience to oncology, orthopedics and women's health. A network of physician practices throughout Lehigh and Northampton counties provide complete primary and pediatric medical care to the region's residents.
Business Needs:
Sacred Heart was looking for a solution for their admission faxes coming from their AS400 system. Currently faxing of about 30 to 40 pages per day was done manually, after printing the information. The desired solution was to fax information about their scheduled patients that included: Patient preparation information, time and date of appointment and directions to the facility. A long term goal was to eventually consolidate and perhaps eliminate the need for fax machines completely.
Solution:
NetCom provided training about the Right Fax product and its offerings. Sacred Heart was looking at a potential $19,000 expense in order to acquire the piece needed to automatically download the faxes from their AS400 system. They were looking into alternate methods of providing this information. NetCom's services revealed that they will be able to achieve a cost-effective solution to scheduling faxes.Sacred Heart was also confident that through their upgrade training they will eventually be able to achieve the long term goal of reducing the number of phone lines needed for faxing. An added bonus was cost savings of employees being able to fax and receive faxes at their desk, therefore eliminating the idle time at the fax machine.
NetCom, through examining the existing set-up and training provided cost savings to Sacred Heart. Having just completed maintenance on an application that was dialing outside to send an internal fax, Sacred Hearet anticipated saving roughly $50 per month. While this savings seems small prior to going to the current Electronic Health System this savings would have been closer to $400 per month. Sacred Heart's existing vendor did not provide them with the same setup after their upgrade. Due to the right training, Sacred Heart anticipates that this information has saved them the cost of implementing 3 additional channels or $ 2,535. Additional savings through future ability to drop phone lines, fax machines and the maintenance and supply cost associated with these items were also anticipated.
